I am just a girl who loves her desserts.

I’m quite easy to please. Just feed me good food. I draw inspiration from Donna Hay, Nigella Lawson, Alice Medrich, Martha Stewart, Betty Saw and Betty Yew. (Who says Asian bakers are not in?)

I live in a tiny bloody red dot called singapore. I’m an acute sufferer of island-gitis. This country makes me feel claustrophobic, but i currently don’t have much of a choice.

I’m employed by a government ministry. I like searching for good food, hole-in-the-wall cafes, baking, driving around the country to look for peaceful and off-the-beaten-track hideouts. I bake to feed my family, friends and loved ones.

  9. hello rin, i’ve never made that before. but then even if i tried i don’t think it’s good for transporation because it uses fresh whipped cream and that will melt fast.

  32. brenda: there’s a lot of frostings for cakes, many different types. for a start you could look at recipe sites or blogs? it’s all a matter of experimentation and practice. πŸ™‚

    I happened to be researching on meringues and came across your blog. I’m so glad I did. I enjoyed looking at all the sweet treats you made.

    I have been experimenting meringues myself. But i have problem with the end product. My meringues turn sticky when cool but was crispy and dry after baking. Any idea where i when wrong?

  42. hi aidah, thanks for dropping by. πŸ™‚ hmm sometimes that happens to me too. the insides are sticky and when you pop one into your mouth, you are left with this sugary clumpy residue. i think it has got to do with the baking temp and time. meringues are best baked under low heat (about 100 degrees celsius) for 1 1/2-2 hours. try that and see how it goes?

My friend’s birthday is coming up and since I’ve quite a bit of buttermilk left I was thinking of making a buttermilk cake for her and I’m using your recipe as a guide. But I’ve never baked a huge cake with buttermilk before. Do you have any suggestions or advice for a first-timer like me? Thanks very much!

  46. Thanks Felice! πŸ™‚ Hmm suggestions or advice huh? Make sure all ingredients are at room temp, especially the butter. And know your oven! Sometimes you need more/less baking time depending… so you need to check to make sure you don’t overbake. πŸ™‚ Have fun!
