November 8, 2006 at 10:45 pm | Posted in Birthdays, Cupcakes | 6 Commentsthese were the cupcakes i baked for poon’s birthday celebration on monday.
the top and bottom rows were meant to be soccer-pitch cupcakes. i was inspired by this entry but then i could not find similar soccer chocolate balls. i figured only those “oldschool” shops would stock it; went to one and couldn’t find it. i asked my dad to help me in my quest as well, but to no avail either. it was only yesterday (tuesday) my dad found it at *drumroll* – mustafa centre. that place has EVERYTHING and i’ve got a good mind to head there after my exams end to hunt for possible decorative items. i believe that there’ll be a good collection of chocolates that are pretty-looking and cheap.
back to the cupcakes. my dad found a pack of football gummies, so i settled for that. of course it didn’t look that authentic but i thought they gave the cupcakes a cutesy feel, because of the cheery colours i guess.
peach tart
November 5, 2006 at 10:16 pm | Posted in Tarts and Pies | 6 Commentsthis was a pre-order-practice attempt, and i’m glad to say it generally turned out well. i looked through evan’s blog and decided to use the sweet shortcrust pastry and creme patissiere recipes that she posted. i need to lay my hands on that donna hay book fast.
the creme patissiere tasted good, although i felt it was a little thick. but it had no lumps at all! and the consistency was very good, with just the right amount of sweetness. and the baked pastry chipped at one section of the pie, probably the crust was too thin up the sides. but i really like the taste of it on the whole. 🙂 now i really need to work on a chicken pie. (i can see the boy nodding vigorously; i’ve promised him that since forever!)
and yes, an update. i know i set the “closed-order” period on the 25th, but now, i have orders running up till then, so i’m afraid i have to stop taking orders. but i promise i’ll be up and running (full steam!) on the 6th of december. however, you can still email me for orders needed after the 6th of december. thank you for your understanding!

butterscotch and white chocolate blondies
November 3, 2006 at 7:46 pm | Posted in Slices | 12 Commentsyesterday while we at tanglin mall, the boy bought me this:
all the cookies look sooooo good and since i came home relatively early today (and there were no orders to fulfill), i decided to try out something. cookies were quite out of the question since i haven’t gotten over the madness of hari raya baking yet, so i decided to do blondies!
the recipe called for toffee bits but i replaced it with butterscotch chips and white chocolate chunks instead. it was a little cakey, not the moist and fudgy consistency that i was hoping for. that aside, the taste was nice, with the sweetness coming mainly from the chips and chocolate chunks. i’ll try this again sometime (but i don’t know who else will eat them because the people closest to me don’t like white chocolate) and i think i shall decrease the amount of flour for a more moist texture, and maybe reduce the sugar a bit as well.
steamed moist chocolate cake
November 1, 2006 at 11:17 pm | Posted in Cakes, Chocolate | 5 Commentsi’ve been wanting to try out this recipe since june (rini beat me to it!) and i finally did it today. peiyong needed a cake for weilong’s birthday celebration and engaged my assistance. i don’t know how it tastes like, hope it’ll be palatable.
don’t ask me why there’s a tree on the cake. haha. peiyong said the birthday boy likes the colours brown and dark green, so a tree is “the best combination.” i think it’s symbolic too. a tree represents growth. right? :p
